Google Celebrates the 246th birth anniversary of Raja Ram Mohan Roy with a Doodle

Today, Google is Celebrating the 246th birth anniversary of Raja Ram Mohan Roy with a Doodle. Raja Ram Mohan Roy is regarded as the “Father of Indian Renaissance”.

He was born on May 22, 1772 into a Prosperous Bengali Family. The Name of his Father was Ramakanto Roy & mOthers name was Tarini Devi. His father was a Hindu Brahmin & Mother was a Housewife.

Roy had major clashes with his father due to his father being a Vaishnavite, this clash led him to leave his house at a very young age for sure.He went on a Long Journey by the Tibets & the Himalayas. During his Long Journey he was able to learn Persian, Arabic, and Sanskrit, which greatly helped him to translate Vedic scriptures into English scriptures without any difficulty whatsover.

After he came back home from his long journey, his parents Married him to a girl.In 1828 he founded the Brahmo Samajwhich is regarded as to be the greatest social-reform movement, the country had ever experienced before.

Meanwhile, his fathers death in 1803 shook him badly and so he decided to leave Radhanagar and Moved to Murshidabad. Here he published his first book Tuhfat-ul-Muwahhidin which means A Gift to Monotheism.

Once his sister-in-law was forcibly burned alive by his family on her husband’s funeral pyre which made him him deeply protest against the system of Sati. So this is how it led him to revolt against this evil system. It was he who largely opposed the system ofSati and due to his Wide spread efforts, the system of Sati was finally banned in 1823.

Raja Ram Mohan Roy died on 26th September, 1833 in Bristol (England), he was suffering from meningitis.
